President’s Message

April/May

Chris Radice, from NorthWest Valley Indivisible was an inspiring speaker at our April meeting. They anticipated 1,000 people to attend the rally in Surprise on April 5th and the approximate count was 2,000! The group on 99th and Bell, while not as large as Surprise was also mighty, both groups sent a message loud and clear, “Hands Off” that was, for the most part, positively received by the traffic driving through. Well done! But, we are not done, as hard as it may be, we must keep the momentum going. Any events that we are aware of are posted on our website (suncitydems.com) and updated as frequently as possible. Please share any events, activities, gatherings, etc. that you learn about with a board member so we can make sure to post it in a timely manner.

Our speaker for May will be a member of the ACLU, his presentation will be informative and hopefully help us understand what is happening behind the scenes both locally and nationally that may not make the news.

We are looking for a volunteer to be a member of the Nominating Committee which will be presenting a slate of candidates in October to be voted on at our November meeting. It may seem early to start this process, but the next two years, leading up to the mid-term elections will be pivotal to maintaining our democracy. Two members of the board will also be on this committee, please consider volunteering for this extremely important position.

Last week we had our annual picnic with a luau theme. We were serenaded by members of the SC Ukulele Club; they added to the wonderful ambience created by Barbara Jones, our Hospitality Chair. Thank you to all who helped create a great afternoon! Barb will not be here for our August meeting and is looking for someone to be in charge of refreshments for that night. Please contact Barb or another board member if you are able to help. We will need a person in charge in order to have refreshments. Thanks.

During these uncertain times, there is still great need of donations to the Valley View Food Bank. They accept monetary as well as donations of food items.

They also accept plastic grocery store bags. Please bring your donations to the next meeting and we will ensure they are brought to Valley View.

Your voices are being heard, keep them being heard, but also take care of yourself.
